Value in the World – A course on evolution and World Heritage for primary school pupils
The ‘Value in the World’ course combines scientific knowledge, aesthetic learning processes and reflection, with a focus on World Heritage, sustainability and humanity’s relationship with nature.
Pupils travel 66 million years back in time to when Stevns Klint lay beneath the sea in the vast Cretaceous Sea. Along the way, pupils reflect on value, traces of the past and humanity’s impact on the world today.
As part of the programme, pupils also venture out into the unique natural environment and landscape of Boesdal Limestone Quarry, where they experience the cliff, the sea and the area’s geology at close quarters. Here, they explore their surroundings and gather materials and impressions that link the site’s natural history to their own experiences, whilst also exploring animal adaptation, food chains and the balance of vulnerable ecosystems.
The programme concludes with a creative ‘technofossil’ workshop, where pupils explore the traces humans leave behind and how these will tell stories about our time in the future.
