About us & contact

Stevns Klint Experience is the main visitor centre and information hub for the Stevns Klint UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The building housing Stevns Klint Experience was designed by Praksis Arkitekter and has been conceived as a new edge within the Boesdal Limestone Quarry. The visitor centre is built into the chalk, and visitors are greeted by a buzz of activity and people right from the forecourt.

The interior of the building comprises a foyer, a café, a shop, the Chalk Room and the Cliff Hall, as well as the World Heritage Hall.

We organise hundreds of activities for local residents of Stevns, regional and national visitors, as well as tourists from all over the world. If you have an idea for an activity, a potential collaboration, or if you need a unique venue for your next event, please get in touch with us at kontakt@stevnsklint.dk or contact one of us directly using the details below.

A stunning building

The visitor centre focuses primarily on the story of the Fifth Great Mass Extinction, whilst Stevns Klint Experience also offers an exciting programme of cultural and sporting activities. The cultural events range from classical and rhythm-based concerts to popular science lectures with a particular focus on geology and the World Heritage Site.

The building was designed by Praksis Arkitekter, who were most recently awarded the ‘Copenhagen’s Most Beautiful’ prize for Ny Østergade 30. The practice has also gained international acclaim for the renovation of the Maltfabrikken in Ebeltoft. The architectural practice is based in Tåsinge – a small, land-connected island in southern Funen, very close to Svendborg.

The building covers a total area of just under 1,500 square metres, of which the exhibition space comprises 520 m², divided between the Klintesalen and the Verdensarvssalen.

The exhibition

In the Klintesalen stands a block of chalk from the Sigerslev chalk quarry. The block weighs 34 tonnes and was hoisted into the building before the roof was fitted. The large block was donated by OMYA A/S.
Twenty-five researchers from Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, the USA and Denmark have helped to unearth these stories. Six museums, two universities and a number of private collections have loaned or donated objects to the exhibition.
