The facility, with its 1.7-kilometre-long network of tunnels, was blasted into Stevns Klint in less than a year in the early 1950s. From the underground operations room, all shipping traffic through the Øresund and the Baltic Sea was monitored. Round the clock, all year round. At FORT, you can feel the chill in the corridors and hear the stories of those who stood guard whilst the world held its breath.
Above ground, an outdoor exhibition awaits, featuring authentic military equipment from the Cold War. HAWK missiles, guns, radars, squadron vehicles and a Draken fighter jet – all testaments to Denmark’s military readiness as part of NATO’s defence. Here, the whole family can explore, and the brave can challenge each other on FORT’s obstacle course.
